Prime Minister Narendra Modi stood among world leaders on Tuesday for a collective photo at the 51st G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada.
Commenting on the occasion, PM Modi underlined that the event symbolized unity in efforts towards world progress.
He also mentioned that his dialogue with other leaders from G7 nations was fruitful, involving key global issues and common visions for a sustainable world.
Taking to X (ex-Twitter), PM Modi posted: "Together for global progress! Productive exchanges with G7 leaders on key global challenges and shared aspirations for a better planet."
Randhir Jaiswal, MEA spokesperson, seconded the idea in another post, saying: "A collective commitment to addressing global challenges & promoting common values. PM @narendramodi with the leaders of @G7 countries and invited partners. #Kananaskis #G7Summit2025."
The photo featured a row of prominent international leaders: Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President Antonio Costa.
Also present in the group were Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and World Bank President Ajay Banga.
Most importantly, U.S. President Donald Trump departed a day ahead of schedule due to rising tensions in the Middle East between Iran and Israel.
During the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Modi also had numerous significant bilateral meetings with international leaders from Mexico, South Korea, Australia, South Africa, France, and Canada—to affirm India's commitment to strengthening its international partnerships.
Speaking after his meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Jaiswal posted on X: "Strengthening India-Germany relations! PM @narendramodi and Germany Chancellor Friedrich Merz had fruitful talks on the margins of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada. Talks were exchanged regarding further intensifying cooperation in areas like IT, innovation, manufacturing, semiconductors, innovation and more. The leaders also decided to deepen counter-terrorism efforts."
In another entry, Jaiswal laid out the Prime Minister's meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung: "PM @narendramodi met President Mr. Lee Jae-Myung @Jaemyung_Lee of Republic of Korea on the sidelines of the 51st #G7Summit in Kananaskis, Canada. The meeting witnessed both sides reaffirming their resolve to further strengthening the India-Republic of Korea Special Strategic Partnership by examining cooperation in trade and economy, cutting-edge and emerging technologies, green hydrogen, shipbuilding, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. Regional and global matters were also discussed."
India’s outreach in Latin America was also emphasized with PM Modi’s first-ever meeting with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. Jaiswal wrote: "Strengthening India-Mexico warm & historical relations. PM @narendramodi greeted President @Claudiashein of Mexico, on the sidelines of 51st G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada. This was the first ever meeting of the two leaders. Both leaders deliberated on avenues to further strengthen cooperation in trade, pharmaceuticals, Science & Technology, digital innovation and exchanged views on important global & regional matters, including priorities of the Global South."
PM Modi also met Australian PM Anthony Albanese. He subsequently posted: "Good to meet my friend, PM Albanese of Australia during the G7 Summit in Canada! @AlboMP."
The host country's involvement was showcased when Canadian PM Mark Carney greeted PM Modi at the summit. MEA Spokesperson Jaiswal termed the meeting as "Building bridges for global progress and cooperation."
Also, PM Modi met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. Posting a snapshot of their interaction, he said: "Happy to interact with the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa at the G7 Summit. @CyrilRamaphosa."
PM Modi also reaffirmed his emphasis on speaking the interests of the Global South at the summit. He is on a three-country visit to Canada that started in Cyprus and will end in Croatia.
Before the summit, PM Modi posted on X: "Reached Calgary, Canada, to participate in the G7 Summit. Will be sitting with different leaders at the Summit and discussing my perspectives on key issues facing the world. Will also be highlighting the Global South's priorities."
The G7 Summit convenes the leaders of the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada, and the European Union. This year's meeting represents Prime Minister Modi's sixth consecutive attendance at the forum.
